Melbourne’s Best Small Business Education & Networking Events

Here you’ll find a collection of my favourite business education & networking events, pitch nights and meetups. This list is updated regularly, so sign up to the newsletter in the footer to be notified of new additions and follow me on Facebook to find out where I’m headed next!

FuckUp Nights (Held Monthly)

Fuckup Nights is a global movement born in Mexico in 2012 to publicly share business failure stories. Hundreds of people attend each event to hear three to four entrepreneurs share their failures. Each speaker is given 7 minutes and is able to use 10 images. After each speaker, there’s a question/answer session, as well as time for networking. Find the next event in your city.

Small Business Festival Victoria (Held Annually in August)

Small Business Festival is an annual curated events program across metropolitan and regional Victoria, providing ideas, information and networking opportunities to start, operate and grow a business.

The Festival has drawn hundreds of thousands of small business owners and managers over more than a decade, and provided businesses with the opportunity to exchange ideas, access free or low-cost information and support and establish valuable professional networks.

The Festival offers a wide range of practical, interactive and innovative events that cover topics such as business planning, marketing, social media, networking and financial management.

Espresso Martinis + Impact

When Vollie and Pro Bono Australia combine your two true loves – espresso martinis and ethics – you don’t ask why. You immediately down tools and get along to their thoughtful dialogue series around social impact.

In May I attended the Espresso Martinis + Impact launch event at One Roof Australia co-working space in Southbank for a much-needed panel discussion on ethics in fashion. Panelists included…

Nick Savaidis, Founder & Director at Etiko Fairtrade
Jordan Deichen, Premium Lead at GlamCorner
Nick Pearce, Co-Founder & CEO at HoMie
Gershon Nimbalker from STOP THE TRAFFIK Australia
Claire Goldsworthy, Editor at The Fashion Advocate

The evening’s discussion was beautifully summarised by moderator, Angela Bell, from Ethical Clothing Australia… “The best advice is shop to your values” 👌

Sign up for the Vollie newsletter and join me for the next instalment of Espressos + Impact 🍸

“52 Ways” by Dale Beaumont of Business Blueprint

In May of 2019 I attended Dale Beaumont’s 1-day workshop, “52 Ways“, at Crown Promenade. It far exceeded my expectations for a free event and was jam-packed with info gems I could immediately apply to my clients’ social media, content creation, email marketing and lead generation strategies.

While there were intermittent pitches for his coaching program, there was enough proof in the pudding of his clients’ video testimonials, and a noticeable lack of overbearing sales ‘cheese’ typically associated with these types of events.

Dale is an authentic speaker, a passionate philanthropist and an agile marketer who knows what it takes technically and mentally to create and grow a thriving business in today’s digital landscape.

Whether you’re a freelancer, marketing professional, or business owner, do yourself a favour and get along to one of his next events in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Wellington or Auckland and see what it’s all about.
